Moving Forward
By: Nancy Wilson
After 23 years of education, it is crazy to think my “in classroom” education will be coming to an end in just a few months. I know that my learning will never stop but it is interesting to think about how much time I have spent as a student in a classroom. I will now spend the next 23 years in a classroom as an educator and life long learner.
In the future I will continue to strive to be a life long learner and I will motivate my students to be life long learners as well. Each day my goal is to make sure my students enjoy coming to school and have fun learning. As a kindergarten teacher, I find it imperative to start off a child’s education in a positive way. There is nothing worse than hearing a child does not want to come to school. It is my goal to help children have a love for learning just like I do.
In order to continue my education I plan to attend professional development days provided by my school district, attend workshops that support my interest in technology, and work closely with my colleagues. I learn amazing things just from talking with the people that work in my school. We have a great support system and have a strong focus on collaboration. I think one of the most effectives ways to learn, as a teacher is to learn from others. I also learn from other teachers around the country by following their blogs. I plan to continue to follow teacher’s blog to help me to continue to improve my teaching.
Technology is always changing and expanding. I want to be able to keep up to date and knowledge about educational technology. In my classroom, I want to continue to learn and incorporate the SmartBoard into my teaching. I have found that it is very engaging for students and an exciting way for students to learn. My students get very excited when they get to use the SmartBoard. I hope to expand my resources and use it more often and in meaningful ways for my students.
Another goal of mine is to keep my classroom website up and running. I created a website in one of my CEP classes during the program and have really enjoyed getting it up and running. I have received great feedback from parents that they find it easy to be up to date and knowledgeable about their child’s education. I hope to expand my classroom website and include student work samples, audio of students reading, and more pictures of students working in the classroom. These are ways I hope to use my classroom website in the future.
I want to become a leader in technology at my school. I want to be able to show people how I am using various types of technology in my classroom and inspire them to use technology in their classrooms. I want to be able to show teachers how powerful and engaging technology can be for students. As a leader, I will also be able to support teachers when they need assistances. Since technology is always growing and changing it will be important for me to keep myself up to date with the up and coming technology. I will ask my school to send me to technology conferences and workshops to keep myself informed about how we can use technology in a meaningful way in the classroom.
As a life long learner I also want to become more knowledgeable about children’s behavior and behavior management. I will learn about this by researching and attending workshops. I am very interested in learning why children behave the way they do. I also want to learn a variety of techniques to handle different types of behaviors.
It is awesome to think about how much I have learned throughout my masters program at Michigan State University. There are so many things that I wanted to learn and so many things I learned that I didn’t even know about. It is exciting to think about how learning never stops. I am driven and focused to be a life long learner and improve myself as an educator. I can’t wait to see what the future brings!
