Growing as a Student and a Leader
Nancy Wilson
When applying to Michigan State University for their Educational Technology program, I was asked to discuss our goals for our future. Below are the goals that I had back in October of 2011 when applying to the program.
When I started the Educational Technology masters program at Michigan State, my main goal and focus was to learn how to use technology to support and extend my students learning. I was aware of some types of technology that I could use in my classroom and with kindergarten students but I was very eager to learn about what else was out there. I was very interested in creating a classroom website to communicate with students and parents. The other main technology that I was eager to learn about was an interactive whiteboard. At the beginning of my program my school was just starting the process of getting SmartBoards in every classroom at my school. I wanted to learn how to use it to help engage my students. The classes I took during my program gave me experiences with both of these technologies but also a huge variety of other technologies.
The other goal that I had at the beginning of the program was teaching others about the technology I was learning about. I wanted to take what I learned in the program and bring it to my school and my colleagues. I have found it to be very exciting to share my knowledge about technology with others. I have enjoyed sharing the projects I have created and helping colleagues create webpages for their classroom.
The goals that I created when applying to MSU have really guided my learning. I wanted to learn about how technology can impact student learning and also how I can support other teachers by sharing my learning. These goals are still things that I strive for and work toward today.
